Description:
The Crimson Café heritage extends back over 100 years
ago to the dense rainforests of Guatemala, the land of eternal
spring. In 1871, The President of Guatemala, Gen. Justo Rufino
Barrios, in an effort to separate church and state, seized
land that the Spanish Catholic Church was holding idle. Afterwards,
his government initiated a program to give back the land to
private industry. Through this program Don Jose María
Padilla Matute, was awarded 800 acres for coffee cultivation.
On May 2, 1880, Don Jose María established the farm
"El Progreso" (The Progress), in anticipation of
the great future ahead. The future was indeed great.
