Local Café Goes High-Tech with
Electronic Signage
For immediate release.
June 26, 2004.
Milwaukee, WI.
For many Third Ward residents, employees, and shoppers with
a taste for great coffee, tempting bakery, and fresh breakfast
and lunch selections, Milwaukee’s Nova Cena has become
a regular stop. Passersby, however, may overlook the café,
which is hidden at 214 N. Broadway’s below-ground level.
To attract new customers and get the word out about daily
specials to regulars, Nova Cena’s owner recently adopted
a high-tech sign that can be easily updated using the café’s
Wi-Fi connection.
Nova Cena serves as a prototype for this leading-edge technology,
which has space for eight lines of text and directional arrows.
The SyncroSign™ Message Board, produced by Gyricon LLC,
runs on D batteries, and power is required only when content
is being updated. The sign is being offered by WEBbeams, the
local company who has provided Nova Cena and other hot spots
with public, pay-per-use Wi-Fi access. In a partnership with
Visual Produx, another Milwaukee company, WEBbeams will offer
the sign to existing Wi-Fi clients as well as a plethora of
other businesses.
“The SyncroSign Message Board has sparked a lot of interest
among businesspeople we’ve spoken with already. Restaurants
are interested in displaying specials; bar owners view the
sign as a way to entice potential customers with happy hour
specials,” said WEBbeams’ CEO Brian Van Lieshout.
“The potential uses are far greater than just eating
establishments though. We are planning a demo of the sign
at the University of Wisconsin that will show conference information
and directions to conference rooms. Hotels, conference centers,
and even assisted living centers will find the sign extremely
helpful, as events change at least daily in those locations.”
Van Lieshout notes the sign can be cheaper than other signage
alternatives.
